The real reason WWE hooked up Paul Heyman to Roman Reigns

The real reason for WWE pairing Paul Heyman with Roman Reigns has now been revealed.

Following Roman Reigns’ WWE return at SummerSlam 2020, it was revealed that Paul Heyman was representing Reigns. Heyman has since served as Special Counsel to the Tribal Chief, parting ways during Reigns’ feud with Brock Lesnar, before meeting again at the Royal Rumble in January.

Lesnar was notably Heyman’s previous on-screen client, but the former advocate eventually proved himself loyal to Reigns.

Speaking on Logan Paul’s Impulsive podcast, Reigns revealed that Heyman started working with him on-screen because Lesnar had not signed a new deal with WWE at the time.

Commenting on his relationship with Heyman, Reigns said:

“Brock (Lesnar) was in between contracts so Paul (Heyman) was kind of open, and it’s okay, you know? He was open creatively. He’s still working behind the scenes from a creative standpoint. and then once it opened

“I mean… when you’re working with someone like Brock, as long as they’ve had that success, you need to do something that’s legitimate to do that move and I guess I was the only one he wanted to work with, otherwise, I think he’d just stay plug-in and help from the point of view of the overall instruction.

“Once he knew, oh, I’m gonna be with Joe (Roman Reigns), it’s all good. I’m going to be with Roman, it’s all right then we knew it was going on “

Roman Reigns is currently the undisputed WWE Universal Champion after unifying the WWE and Universal titles at WrestleMania 38 in April. WWE is reportedly dealing with a ‘complicated’ situation when booking Reigns and his World Title defense, which you can read about here.
