Sounds like AEW’s very disservice is part of Tony Khan’s master plan

AEW umpires had a particularly poor performance at Dynamite Grand Slam yesterday (September 23). The first three games of the evening were all decided by cheating that the umpires were never in the right position to catch.

My colleague Manolo has pizza highlighted this issue in his review of the show:

“The problem was the cumulative effect of wire transfers at key moments. On their own individually, the first three cheats were acceptable. One after another after another wears thin.”

This criticism was shared by many fans. on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer indicated that this was not a case of poor communication between agents/producers. No, Tony Khan purposely booked three consecutive finishes as it is part of a planned partnership with referee Paul Turner.

Khan then appeared to confirm that claim by posting the following tweet today:

So AEW umpires have to stop doing their job, and it’s up to Senior Official Paul Turner to make sure they get their act together. It doesn’t exactly sound like the most immersive angle in the world, especially during such an important week of AEW television.

Are you tuning in? rampage tomorrow night (spoilers here) to see if Paul Turner has what it takes to complete this crucial assignment?
