Billy Corgan, owner and promoter of the National Wrestling Alliance, has said that he had previously received an offer to buy Ring of Honor.

AEW President Tony Khan announced the acquisition of ROH in March ahead of the promotion’s return show, SuperCard of Honor, in April.

Promotion went on hiatus after the December 2021 Finals Battle event, in which all talent was released from their contracts as part of a plan to ‘reimagine’ the brand.

speak with Steve Fall for NBC Sports BostonBilly Corgan claimed to have found a deal for ROH that he had actually considered.

When asked if Tony Khan ever offered to buy the NWA, Corgan said:

“No. Those discussions never happened. I was even offered Ring of Honor for sale. I don’t know where I was in the pecking order.

“I had a feeling I wasn’t the first, but I certainly wasn’t the last. I believed it.

“It’s an interesting thing to think about, like, you know, like Tony did, create a brand that runs with your core brand and maybe there’s a synergy there.”

ROH’s most recent event was the Death Before Dishonored pay-per-view on July 23. With Tony Khan still working on securing a TV deal for the brand, the next promotion event will be Final Battle 2022 on December 10th.

Chris Jericho currently defends the ROH title on AEW TV with the ROH World Champion after defeating Claudio Castagnoli for Gold at the Grand Slam: Dynamite in September.
