AEW President Tony Khan has provided an update on the likely appearance of AEW stars at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17.

Next year’s annual NJPW Tokyo Dome event will see the return of Wrestle Kingdom in a one-night format, with Wrestle Kingdom 17 scheduled for January 4, 2023.

It was reported in August that some AEW stars had some tentative plans to wrestle on the show.

to speak on Wrestling Observer Radio In the lead up to All Out, Tony Khan pointed out that January 4 next year falls on a Wednesday.

Explaining why he is not ‘thrilled’ about it, Khan said:

“One challenge we’ll have to keep an eye on this year is the Tokyo Dome on Wednesday. It hurts you on Friday because you can keep strong on Wednesday but you lose four big stars and that hurts you on Friday.” I really want to rebuild on Friday.

“I’m not thrilled about it, but I’ll do my best to support them because they’re our partners, but I can’t send everyone there. If it was a weekend, I’d send them home, because we’re such partners. It’s a really great relationship because we’ve already talked about it, but we have to dynamite and there’s a good chance that maybe Rampage will be taped that day.

AEW and NJPW exclusively held the Forbidden Door joint show in June.

NJPW star Great-O-Khan recently shared his honest thoughts on the AEW roster, naming a star he believes has the potential to be ‘the best’.
