Kofi Kingston has revealed that his tag-team partnership with Xavier Woods and Big E was crucial to the development of The New Day.
The 11-time tag-team champion is known for his high-energy dynamic both in the ring and on the mic. Kingston has now revealed that his on-screen promo skills were honed during the live event.
to speak on wrestler radioKingston reminisced how the trio would test the material with a live crowd, saying:
“Everything we’ve done on TV started at a live event, whether it was on a road traveling in a car or doing random stuff in the ring. Literally everything.
“We usually go out there and we try to entertain each other, and then when something like this works out, we’re like, ‘People are gonna be like. Well let’s see what they do this time. Like it or not. Oh, they like it here. Let’s get it on TV and see if they like it there too.’ To be on the road and to have these live events was my, Woods and E.
“We were lucky enough to be able to travel and match with each other every week. That’s before anything aired on TV, and to promote that kind of chemistry and really put it on then.” Let’s fix that until we’re able to start on TV.”
This clearly paid off for the group, as the chemistry between the three is electric.
The future of the WWE favorites as the trio is uncertain due to a serious neck injury suffered by Big E during the March 11, 2022 edition of SmackDown.
Big E reunited with Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston on screen in May 2022, although it is unknown whether he may be able to return to the ring safely. Doctors had previously told Big E that they hoped he would eventually make a full recovery.
