AEW President Tony Khan reportedly allowed WWE to interview several of AEW’s top stars for the John Cena tribute package, which aired on Monday’s “WWE Raw.”
According to fighter selection, WWE approached Khan to seek his permission and got the green light to conduct the interview. Given the circumstances surrounding the video, Khan was told okay with the content and gave his approval. A WWE source told Fightful that they were able to land almost everyone they expected for the Cena congratulatory video.
As previously mentioned, Brian Danielson, Paul Waite and Chris Jericho made cameo appearances on the show to congratulate Cena on his 20-year WWE anniversary.
“Congratulations to John Cena on 20 years of hustle, loyalty and respect,” Jericho said. “One of my all-time favorite opponents.”
This was not the first instance of Jericho returning to WWE TV in any capacity since joining AEW. Last year, on WWE Hall of Famer Steve Austin’s Broken Skull Sessions podcast, Jericho opened up about his reasons for signing with AEW and even WWE booking his WrestleMania 33 match against Kevin Owens. also criticized. In fact, Jericho openly admitted that WWE’s handling of his feud against Owens contributed to his exit from WWE.
Other WWE veterans who congratulated John Cena on “WWE Raw” include JBL, Steve Austin, Stephanie McMahon, Randy Orton, and Kurt Angle.
