It all started with one Tweet from Klobrille about an anniversary broadcast, but within hours it caused a whirlwind of rumors and leaks, so let’s talk about that.

Age of Empire is a franchise of historical real-time strategic video games. It was first created by Ensemble Studios and released by Xbox Game Studios. Age of Empire’s first game came out in 1997.

IMPORTANT TAKE OUT:

  • Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition, a 1999 remaster of the game, came to PC in 2019.
  • There was no news of its coming to Xbox until it was spotted on PEGI.
  • The game will be released on 25/10/22.

Recently, fans have been asking the company to release the game on Xbox. Klobrille recently tweeted about informing Age of Empires fans about a 25th anniversary broadcast.

What should have been a bittersweet moment was, in fact, met with much hostility. Many argued that this was a cheap clickbait gimmick. While the Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition was released on PC in 2019, there was no such news for Xbox users.

One fan said: β€œIf there’s no news of Age of Empires console releases, what would a console player get to watch? regular Klobrille there are better ways to get attention.”

Many fans seemed to have the same feelings, but Klobrille’s response seemed to remain nonchalant. He simply asked the fan to join the session. This is the point where the bomb fell. Hours later, the Snitch joined the conversation, leaving everyone shocked.

He replied in the same Twitter thread, saying: β€œSee you in 2023.” The rumor mill started spinning immediately. Many speculated that the Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition would be released for Xbox players next year.

Fans around the world were thrilled to hear this, claiming that next year was going to be a super exciting time for Xbox players.

Another user agreed with this sentiment, saying: “If I were still a console gamer, I’d probably go for this generation’s Xbox.”

Fans were terrified to get the game next year, well that was until Twitter users IdleSloth84 and MACOS380 saw something very interesting.

In their tweets, they pointed out that the Pan European Game Information had in fact listed an Age of Empires game. The full name of the game was listed as Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition

According to the PEGI website, the Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition is a:

Real-time strategy game with 27 single-player campaigns and a competitive multiplayer mode, all set in ancient history from the Dark Age to the Imperial Age. Players take control of one of 34 civilizations to build their empire and defeat their opponents. This is an updated and improved version of the original release.

According to the website, the game will be available on Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and even Xbox One. Their respective release dates have also been mentioned. Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition will even come out in October 25, 2022.

So it turns out the Snitch got the dates all wrong. One Twitter user humorously said: “I’ll look like a fool soon.”

Age of Empires fans are waiting to attend the anniversary broadcast to officially receive the news. The broadcast is today on 10 a.m. PT / 1 p.m. EST / 6 p.m. BST.
