As AEW chief Tony Khan makes the media rounds this week to help promote Wednesday’s Grand Slam in Queens, New York, he took a shot at WWE in an interview while capturing America’s Northeast region.
Speaking to News 12 (seen below), Khan was responding to a question about the conduct of New York state shows this month in addition to upcoming shows in Philadelphia and Boston, when said the following:
“We’re running a lot of great shows around the Northeast. It’s a lot of great wrestling markets in one geographic area. I’ll say it: (It’s) the crown jewel of wrestling markets – the real crown jewel of wrestling markets, overseas in Saudi Arabia Not some BS. The real crown jewel – New York City – is where you want to be.”
WWE, of course, runs twice a year in Saudi Arabia as part of a partnership with its government which is a financial windfall for WWE. His next show is scheduled for early November.
Khan is driving Arthur Ashe Stadium for the second year in a row for Wednesday’s double dynamite/Stampede incident.
