AEW star recalls receiving high praise from Stephanie McMahon

AEW Tag Team Champion Swarve Strickland recalled receiving high praise from Stephanie McMahon during her time in NXT.

Strickland recently discussed the frustrations he had in his early days at the Black & Gold brand, noting that he often told Triple H that he wanted to be her guy.

Former Isaiah ‘Swarve’ Scott said:

“So it took a year to do all this stuff, to be able to get to that point, to get that equity to that conversation, that window opened. Then it was like, okay, right, and right here. Since then it really started spinning.This is where my hair color started changing.

“They put grills and all that other stuff in my mouth. I really started dabbling in the hip hop realm of things. There was another TV match between me and Bronson, Jonah, and we just went at it because I felt That Triple H didn’t think I was intense enough.

“I was like, okay, so we beat the crap at each other, boom, there was a bang. That’s when the light bulb went off for them. Then Stephanie McMahon came in and said, ‘You’re like my favorite heel. You’re here be my favorite heel’, and then everything just kind of whirlwind and went up from there.”

Strickland was released from his WWE contract in November 2021. He made his AEW debut at the Revolution pay-per-view in March.

Stephanie McMahon currently serves as the President and Co-CEO of WWE. The other co-CEO Nick Khan is also the chairman of WWE.

Triple H is the current WWE Chief Content Officer, and has been running creative since Vince McMahon’s retirement at the end of July.
